Hakone: Black Onsen Eggs

In Owakudani Valley (in Hakone), they sell "Black Onsen Eggs". They are regular hard-boiled eggs, but the shells are black because they have been boiled in the sulfurous hotspring/geiser water. A legend says that you live 7 years longer for each black egg you eat.

They have a mini-gondola cart to carry fresh eggs up to the hot spring, and the black eggs back down to sell at the bus stop.

Nearby the black egg stand, there are several counters for peeling your black egg.

We ate the black eggs, but I can't seem to find the pics of that... (the group needs to do a picture swap!)

Here is one of the hot springs. I believe they cook the eggs here.
